It can come on out of nowhere. One minute you were feeling fine, and then suddenly it seems as though you do not know which end is up. The walls start to close in and you cannot catch your breath. Suddenly, you are in the midst of a panic attack. But where did it come from. One minute you are feeling fine, and the next your struggling not to scream.

When dealing with panic attacks it can be difficult to identify why an attack develops. The truth is that panic attacks are brought on by a trigger. Panic attack triggers are actually some sort of stimuli that sends you off into a state of panic. When looking for panic attack triggers you will need to realize that triggers can actually come in one of two different categories.

There are internal panic attack triggers and external panic attack triggers. Internal triggers are things that you think or feel within your own self. For example it could be a memory that you think about, a thought that crosses your mind, an emotion that you are feeling, or even a physical sensation that you feel. External panic attack triggers are things that you experience in your external environment. Perhaps you smell something that reminds you of something else. Or maybe you experience a quick change in temperature or lighting. Even a noise or a taste can trigger your panic attack. Often the person who is experiencing the panic attack may not realize that there are specific things triggering the onslaught of anxiety, fear, and agitation.

It will take a bit of time to identify the source of your panic attack, but it is worth the energy. By being able to identify your panic attack triggers you will be able to develop methods to keep them at bay. There are many different methods that you can explore to help manage your panic attack triggers. Some of the most common are therapy and medication. However, not everyone wants to explore those methods. Additionally, there are natural methods that you can spend some time investigating. Often a relaxing activity like yoga or meditation can help to equip you with methods to use when faced with panic attack triggers. For example, if you are someone who gets set off into a panic by a particular smell you can employ some deep breathing when that smell appears before your body sets into its panic reflex. By being able to keep your panic at bay you will be able to move through life more successfully.
