Nocturnal Panic Attacks Cause High Blood Pressure

Panic attacks can occur at any point in the day, but those that deal with nocturnal panic attacks may find that it is harder to diagnose these panic attacks that only seem to show up in the dead of night. This happens because sometimes it is hard to figure out if you are having a bad dream or actually dealing with a panic attack. However, it is definitely important to catch these types of panic attacks as soon as possible, since they can have negative effects, such as high blood pressure, on your body.

Usually it doesn’t happen right away, but nocturnal panic attacks usually wait until after you have been asleep for some time to occur. At some point while sleeping, some happens in the mind that makes people wake up, and when they wake up, they are breathing hard, they feel upset and frightened, and they are often sweating. In most cases it seems like these panic attacks happen for no reason, and it is definitely important that you don’t get them confused with a very bad dream.

There are a variety of different symptoms to look for if you think that you are dealing with nocturnal panic attacks. One of the main symptoms is awaking very abruptly while you are sleeping. You may sit right up or even jump out of bed. Usually this is only caused by the panic attack. Another symptom is feeling very fearful or even terrorized for no reason. Chills, sweating, flushing, and shaking can occur as well. Hyperventilation and problems breathing right can also be symptoms of this problem. The pulse can go up and sometimes chest pains can occur, and high blood pressure can be a problem too. All of these symptoms together can definitely make it a very upsetting experience to go through.

A variety of things can be done to try and avoid having these nocturnal panic attacks. You can look closely at what you are eating to see if anything is causing the problem. Sometimes alcohol late in the day can be a problem and can bring on this problem. Even some foods high in sugar can have something to do with it. See what you are doing or eating on days before these attacks happen to see if there is any pattern that you can change to avoid them.

Since these nocturnal panic attacks can cause high blood pressure to occur, it is a good idea to seek help for this as soon as possible. See your doctor and let him know what is going on. This way you can get treatment for the problem before it gets too out of hand.
